PURCHASE A FORMULATION

Prices vary depending on size of pack.

Who is it for?

Pack formulations, cooked or raw. These are recipes that are formulated using NRC guidelines that are applied to an entire pack. This means you are making one base recipe for multiple dogs of multiple sizes and then adding some fresh toppers that are tailored to their weight.

What is cool about pack formulations is that I am still reviewing the intake form for each dog and I am still formulating on a very individual basis. I create a base mix. Then I add individualized supplements as needed, or whole raw bones, or other ingredients that will be unique to each dog. See a sample report for best explanation.

Pack formulations are nothing like using commercial guidelines. I am still directly looking at nutrient levels and balance for each dog when they consume a certain amount of the base batch. NRC guidelines are used and met for each dog. I still review each nutrient for each dog according to each of their customized and calculated nutrient goals. Their nutrient profiles are viewed side by side as I adjust the base recipe, then add toppers.

The formulations still provide room to consider all breeds. Keep in mind that pack formulations do not work for every pack as differences in tolerance for ingredients, energy density, ingredient prep, and activity level may mean that a pack formulation is not optimal.

N

All must be adults

N

require similiar energy density

A couch potato and a canine athlete cannot eat the same base mix.
N

able to eat the same ingredients

If your dogs have a lot of food intolerances, they may not be able to eat a pack formulation if there is no overlapping tolerated ingredients.
N

Tolerate Similar Levels of Macronutrients

If one dog doesn’t do well on moderate fat and another dog doesn’t do well with carbs, a pack formulation may not be possible or optimal.
N

Must be healthy

I have only ever had one pack style therapeutic formulation. If one dog is healthy and the other with chronic kidney disease, a pack formulation is not possible

Created for You

The in-depth intake form allows me to address the needs of your dog as well as your needs as the owner- sourcing and prep.

Why do you include cooked recipes?

Many know me from my admin role in raw feeding groups. However, nutrition science does not stop at raw foods. Many dogs do better on cooked, and others on raw. I am happy to do what works according to what is made available to us through nutrition science.

Do you utilize whole foods?

I utilize whole foods whenever possible. I never select a supplement when a whole food solution is available. Food allergies, limited calories, and limited sourcing are all factors that may contribute to supplementation. I am knowledgable about whole food supplements, including Standard Process, but not all whole food supplements are accessible, affordable, or appropriate.

I will not fill nutritional gaps using innapropriate foods like ginger or heavy amounts of seeds and nuts.

Are you aware of the taurine issues?

Yes, and I am always mindful of the recipe formulation- including amino acids, fat, ingredients, etc. Do check out my full post about DCM post here.

I only have access to certain ingredients, will I have time to share what those are?

Absolutely, the health intake form allows for plenty of space to fill in what you like to use, don’t like to use, foods your dog likes and dislikes, etc.

Is this a phone call?

Nope! Consults are delivered vita email. Of course, I am happy to arrange a phone consultation if you would like.

Do you utilize raw feeding guidelines?

Typically, no. I utilize nutrition science and apply it to the dog we are feeding. Feed Thy Dog 🙂

Often times, 10% bone is too high in phosphorus or calcium and interferes with other nutrients. Other owners do not wish to feed raw meaty bones. Often times, 5% liver will cause too high of copper.

Recipes are highly customized for the dog keeping nutrients but also ingredients in mind.

Why do you include plant-based ingredients?

Supporting the dog’s microbiome is critical for the health of the animal. Nutriiton science is learning more each day. You are what you eat is now more accurately described as You are what you absorb. Digestible carbohydrates and small amounts of plant matter are almost always used in recipes. High carbohydrate recipes are not formulated unless the dog needs it.

Phytonutrients have much to offer, and I select ingredients based on the dog. A young dog’s recipe will look different than the ways I would support an elderly dog.

I also provide information in the write-up that teaches you how to rotate out your own fresh plant sources.

I do not have to use these and you can certainly request that I don’t.

What if the recipe doesn't work?

The best way to ensure the recipe works is to be as specific as possible when filling out the intake form. If your sourcing information changes, you need to let me know immediately. I cannot formulate mutliple recipes due to intake form error.

If your dog’s activity level changes, let me know immediately. Calorie adjustments take time.

That being said, recipe adjustment is a normal part of the process and one hour of adjustment time is included in the price.

I have two+ dogs that can eat the same foods. Do I buy two recipes?

Each recipe includes an evaluation of one dog, not two. However, if you do happen to have two dogs that are very similar in what they eat (including calories), you can go ahead and purchase just one recipe. Please understand that I can only assess one dog in the time alloted to one recipe. A pack formulation may be more appropriate- which is a different service entirely.

If you have a larger pack of dogs, ranging from large to small sized, but still all currently eating the same food, you can email me for custom pricing: savannah@feedthydog.com. Typically, I am able to create your own formula for your pack, and I provide a range that each dog can safely eat. This comes with its own nutriton label! Do note that you cannot purchase one recipe to do this. I need an in-depth form for each dog eating the formula.

How do you learn about my dog?

After you purchase a meal plan, you will be automatically emailed a detailed health form. The health form includeds:

  • Age
  • Previous health history
  • Current health
  • Condition of coat, nails, teeth etc.
  • Body condition (with imaging to help)
  • Activity level
  • Sourcing information
  • Water information
